Arrival – Accra

Upon arrival at the Kotoka International Airport, a representative from Blastours will meet group for a transfer to the lodging. Depending on the time of arrival, we can  visit James town for an evening walking tour with a great chance to witness activities of Akweley Suma in preparation towards the twin festival ahead.

Fri. 11th Aug. (Day 2)

Accra

This morning, we will begin with an Accra city tour. Visit the Artists Alliance Art Gallery, a gallery of painting and sculpture, where works of up-and-coming Ghanaian artists are on display. Drive by the Osu Castle (Christiansborg), which was originally built by the Danes. Stopover at the Independence square. Continue the Ga Mashie Palace, where we join in the activities of the Twin Festival, a celebration of the double blessing from God. Overnight stay at a boutique hotel in Accra (B/L/D)

Sat. 12th Aug. (Day 3)

Accra

Morning visit to the Makola Market.
Join in celebrations of the Homowo festival . After a traditional
meal of Kpoikpoi.

Sun. 13th Aug. (Day 4)

Accra – Hohoe

Set off for the Volta region through the stunning Avatime hills to Amedzofe for a hike to Mount Gemi
for a perfect view of the Volta lake and surrounding villages. Also visit the Tafi Atome Monkey
Sanctuary, where monkeys live in complete harmony with the residents.

Mon. 14th Aug. (Day 5)

Hohoe

Set off to conquer up Mount Afadjato, the highest peak in Ghana.
In the afternoon experience a walk to the lower Wli waterfalls, where one can have a refreshing
shower under the falls.

Tues. 15th Aug. (Day 6)

Ho – Akosombo

Depart for Akosombo with brief stopovers at crafts shops dealing in drum making and pottery. There is
also a great chance of meeting palmwine (local wine) for sale along the route. On arrival, experience a
boatride along the Volta River.

Wed. 16th Aug. (Day 7)

Akosombo – Kumasi

Set off for Kumasi with a visit to the bead market in Agomanya on this market day.
Continue trip to Kumasi, with brief stopovers at the craft villages of Ntonso, a village famous for
adinkra design and Ahwiaa for carving. Also visit the village of Adanwomase (Kente) to interact with
locals and to learn the art and history of the craft.

Thurs. 17th Aug. (Day 8)

Kumasi – Elmina

Morning visit to the textile section of the Kejetia Market, the largest open air market in West Africa.
Visit the Manhyia Palace before departing for the central region with a stopover at Assin Manso. Overnight stay at a beachfront resort in Elmina

Fri. 18th Aug. (Day 9)

Elmina

Early morning visit to the Kakum National Park, which comprises of undisturbed virgin rainforest to
experience a walking tour on the longest and highest canopy walkway in West Africa.
Also stopover at a rubber and
oil palm plantation and a local factory to witness work in progress.
After lunch we visit the Cape Coast Castle, a well preserved castle declared as a World Heritage site.
End the day with a drum and dance cultural performance.

Sat. 19th Aug. (Day 10)

Elmina – Accra

Start the day with a walk through Jamestown, the ‘original Accra’ with its old streets. It happens to be one of the oldest settlements full of beautifully disheveled colonial buildings and yet remains one of the most vibrant districts. Witness the traditional way of cooking some meals indigenous to West Africa including the art of molding and cooking of Ga kenkey, a skill that has been handed down by generations. Also join in the festivities of the Chale Wote festival, an alternative platform that brings art, music, dance and performances out into the streets.

Accra – Departure

Spend the rest of the morning free exploring Osu’s Oxford streets before departure.
