Ghana Togo Benin 2026 Voodoo Expedition

An ideal sample tour of Ghana, Togo & Benin curated to include the annual voodoo festival in Ouidah. It offers a unique opportunity to experience mesmerizing voodoo practices, traditional and local beliefs and other festive events peculiar to this time of the year.

 

Tues. 30th Dec. 2025 (Day 1)

Accra – Arrival

On arrival, group will be met by a representative of Blastours for a transfer to the hotel.

Depending on the time of arrival, we can explore nightlife on Osu’s Oxford Street, the heartbeat of Accra’s nightlife scene.

There are numerous of pubs, clubs, restaurants and fast-food joints worth visiting.

Wed. 31st Dec. (Day 2)

Accra

This morning, we will begin with an Accra city tour. Visit the Fantasy coffin makers, who make coffins to reflect a person’s affiliation.  Experience a walk, that will take us from the Osu Castle (Christiansborg), which was originally built by the Danes. Stopover at the Independence square.

Continue the day with a visit to the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum (the final resting place of Ghana’s first President) and the Arts Centre for National Culture.

Join in a New Year Eve’s celebrations.

Spend the night at a Boutique Hotel in Accra (B/L/D)

Thur. 01st Jan. (Day 3)

Accra – Winneba (65km) – Elmina (90km)

Depart for Cape Coast with a stopover at Winneba, where we witness a brass band procession and elaborate costumes at the Masquerade Festival.

Continue to Cape Coast, where we visit the Cape Coast Castle (Fort Carlsborg), which was under Swedish administration.

Take a walk through the Cape Coast township.

Overnight stay at a beachfront resort in Elmina (B/L/D)

Fri. 02nd Jan. (Day 4)

Elmina – Kakum (40km)

Experience a walk through the forest trails of the Kakum National Park comprising of undisturbed virgin rainforest. Continue with a walk across the Canopy walkway.

Make brief stopovers at a local oil palm factory to witness work in progress.

In the afternoon, experience a guided tour of the Elmina Castle, declared as a UNESCO World heritage site.

Continue with a walking tour through the Elmina township to view some houses built in colonial style, visit the fishing harbour, the market and the Dutch Cemetery.

End the day with a drum and dance session.

Sat. 03rd Jan. (Day 5)

Elmina – Kumasi (225km)

Depart for the Ashanti Region through to Assin Manso, the location of a slave river.

On arrival, we visit the Kejetia Market, the largest open-air market in West Africa.

There is also a great chance to witness an Ashanti funeral this day.

End the day with a visit to the Kumasi Cultural Centre, which offers a good account of the rich Ghanaian culture, provides evidence of the Ashanti Kingdom’s eminent past. It houses the Prempeh II Jubilee Museum, which provides a fascinating collection of Asante’s history.

Sun. 04th Jan. (Day 6)

Kumasi

Visit the Manhyia Palace, seat of the Ashanti Kingdom.

Continue to the Asante Traditional Buildings, one of the World Heritage Sites in Ghana, comprising of 13 traditionally built buildings from the time of the Ashanti Empire in the area.

In the afternoon, we will visit the crafts villages of Ntonso, famous for adinkra design and Ahwiaa for carving.

Also visit the village of Adanwomase (Kente) to interact with locals and to learn traditional skills like kente weaving, palmwine tapping, farming, etc.

Mon. 05th Jan. (Day 7)

Kumasi – Akosombo (260km)

Depart for Akosombo with a stopover at the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG) for a guided tour through the range of laboratories and experimental cocoa farms. Here, we will learn about the wonderful stuff made from cocoa. Visit the Centre’s shop with locally manufactured cocoa and cashew products on sale.

Continue trip to Akosombo with a stopover at the Akomfo Anokye shrine in Larteh.

End the day with a boatride along the Volta River.

Tues. 06th Jan. (Day 8)

Akosombo – Gemi (110km) – Tafi (35km) – Ho (50km)

Set off to Amedzofe for a hike through villages to the peak of Mount Gemi for a perfect view of the Volta Lake and surrounding villages. Also experience a walk along the canopy walkway near the Ote waterfalls.

Visit the Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary, where monkeys are considered sacred and live in complete harmony with the locals.

End the evening with an Ewe dance performance.

Spend the night at a boutique hotel in Ho (B/L/D)

Wed. 07th Jan. (Day 9)

Ho – Kpalime (45km)

Depart for Kpalime crossing the border at Nyive.

On arrival, experience a 2 hour walk through the village of Kouma Konda at the base of Mt Klouto and embark on a botanical excursion and butterfly safari. Visit the craft centre which sells batik fabric decorated with local motif. End the day with an Akpesse dance performance,

Spend the night at a Boutique hotel in Kpalime (B/L/D)

Thurs. 08th Jan. (Day 10)

Kpalime – Abomey (185km)

Depart for Abomey through Notse with brief stops at a pineapple farm. On arrival, we visit the Queen mother of Abomey. Also witness an Amazon dance troupe performance.

Continue to the Lieu Unik, a contemporary creative space and the amazing Chameleon shaped Voodoo temple.  

End the day with an Egungun mask dance.

Fri. 09th Jan. (Day 11)

Abomey – Ouidah (120km)

Set off for Allada to witness a voodoo celebration amidst rituals.

Continue trip to Ganvie, the “Venice” of the Continent is a 500-year-old village on water.

End the day in Cotonou.

Ouidah

Join in the celebrations of the annual voodoo festival to witness unique rituals and ceremonies. Visit the

Sacred Forest and the Temple of the Pythons, both important voodoo shrines.

Sun. 11th Jan. (Day 13)

Ouidah – Agbodrafo (80km)  – Lome (35km)

Depart for Lome through Grand Popo to Agbodrafo for a boatride to Togoville, where we visit the ancient German Cathedral and the traditional museum of the King of Togoville.

Continue to a nearby village to witness the voodoo ceremony that includes a dance, spiritual possession and trance. Also visit the Wood House before crossing the border into Benin.

Continue trip to Lome.  Overnight stay at a boutique hotel in Lome (B/L/D)

Mon. 12th Jan (Day 14)

Lome – Departure

Start the day with a visit to the Akodesséwa fetishes market, where one can find magic remedies and local voodoo charms used by local sorcerers. Visit the Grand Marche – the realm of the famous “Nana Benz“ then to the Art Street with its craft vendors.

In the afternoon, check into airport for departure.  No overnight stay (B)
