Elmina Walking Tour

The guided walking tour of the over 700 year-old Elmina Township is an experience. As a living museum, Elmina has more to share than what meets the eye.

The Elmina town tour offers in-depth information on the economic, political, historical and cultural aspects of Elmina. On this walking journey, we discover the archaeological site of old Elmina, the Mpoben Fish Market, the 19th Century Merchant Houses where prosperous Dutch Merchants lived, the Dutch Cemetery with its imposing Mausoleum and grave markers which tell the stories of European and African celebrities, canons of redoubts which fortified the town from external attacks.

Visit one of the three prominent hills and see the beautiful panorama which surrounds Elmina and their importance in history. The history of this place is a collage of Portuguese, Dutch, and British influence. Have a ‘brush’ with the present Elmina community and experience the richness and depth of our history.

After a lunch break at the Bridge house, we visit fishing harbor also for a boatride on the ocean along the Elmina Coastline.
