Kakum Birdwatching

Set off early for a trip to the Central Region. On arrival, we visit the Kakum National Park, which comprises of undisturbed virgin rainforest to experience a walking tour on the longest and highest canopy walkway in West Africa.

The wildlife endemic in Kakum includes porcupines, squirrels, olive colobus monkey, black and white colobus, the red river hog and tree hyrax, forest buffalo, civet cats. Butterflies and birds abound in Kakum.

Make a brief stopover at the Hans Botel, a resort partly built on stilts on a river with Nile crocodiles, lots of bird life and monkeys.

The river passing through this resort nests over a hundred species of birdlife including Shikra, Bronze & Magpie Mannikin, Vieillot’s Black & Orange Weaver, Green-headed Sunbird, Pied & Malachite Kingfisher, Common Sandpiper, African Jacana and Lesser-striped Swallow, nesting Village Weavers and roosting Long-tailed Cormorant and Cattle Egrets.
