Day 1

Accra – Arrival

On arrival at the Kotoka International airport, a representative from Blastours will meet guests for a transfer to the hotel.

Day 2

Accra

Start the day with a walking tour of Jamestown, the ‘original Accra’ with its old streets. Taste some wholesome snacks and drinks as we stroll through the locality.

Continue to the Artists Alliance Art Gallery for contemporary African art. This is a well-respected gallery of painting and sculpture by established and up-and-coming Ghanaian artists.

Also visit the Fantasy coffin makers, who make coffins to reflect a person’s affiliation.

Drive by the Osu Castle (Christiansborg), which was originally built by the Danes, then by the Independence square to the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum.

 Day 3

Accra – Elmina (160km)

Depart for the Central Region with a stopover at Anomabo, the ancestral home of Louise Armstrong.

On arrival, visit the Cape Coast Castle, one of the best preserved castles and also declared as UNESCO World heritage site. Experience a walk through the Door of No Return.

Day 4

Elmina

In the morning, we will visit the Elmina Castle, founded by the Portuguese in 1482. Continue with a walk through the Elmina township to view some houses built in colonial style, including the Dolphin house, Churches and the Dutch Cemetery. Also visit the colourful fishing market and harbor.

Day 5

Elmina - Kumasi (220km)

Depart for the Ashanti region through Assin Manso, where slaves were kept, had a last bath in the "Donko Nsuo" before shipment to the New World.

End the day with a visit to the Kumasi Cultural Centre, which offers a good account of the rich Ghanaian culture, It houses the Prempeh II Jubilee museum, which provides a fascinating collection of Asante’s history.

Day 6

Kumasi            

Start the day with a visit to the Manhyia Palace, seat of the Ashanti Kingdom to visit the it’s Museum.

There is a great chance of witnessing a traditional Ashanti funeral this day.

Continue to the crafts villages of Ntonso, famous for adinkra design and Ahwiaa for carving and the village of Adanwomase (Kente).

Day 7

Kumasi – Akosombo (260km)

Depart for Akosombo with a stopover at the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG) for a guided tour through the range of laboratories and experimental cocoa farms. Here, we will learn about the wonderful stuff made from cocoa.
Visit the Centre’s shop with locally manufactured cocoa and cashew products on sale.

 Day 8

Akosombo -  Lomé (180km)

In the early morning, experience a scenic boatride along the Volta River.

Depart for Togo by crossing the land border into Lome.

On arrival we visit the Grand Marche – the realm of the famous “Nana Benz“ then to the Art Street with its craft vendors. Also visit the Akodesséwa fetishes market, where one can find magic remedies and local voodoo charms used by local sorcerers.

Day 9

Lome – Togoville (45km) – Ouidah (65km)

In the morning, we set off for Benin through Agbodrafo.

Experience a boatride to Togoville, where we’ll visit the ancient German Cathedral and the traditional museum of the King of Togoville.

Cross the border at Grand Popo into Benin to witness the Zangbeto Ceremony, a fascinating ceremony performed by the night guardians who patrol and protect the community from danger, evil spirits and criminals.

Day 10

Ouidah – Ganvie (55km) - Cotonou  (35km)

Start the day with a visit to the Sacred Forest and the Temple of the Pythons, both important voodoo shrines. Visit the Door of no Return, marking the final point where enslaved Africans were forced onto ships bound for the Americas.

In the afternoon, we will visit Ganvie, the “Venice” of the Continent, a 500-year-old village on water.

Day 11

Cotonou – Porto Novo (35km)

Start the day with a visit to the Statue of the Woman Warrior then to the Cathedral of Notre Dame, Dantokpa Market. 

Set off for Porto-Novo named by the Portuguese in the 1500s. Many Afro-Brazilians settled in Porto Novo following their return to Africa after emancipation in Brazil.

Take a walk through the old city including visits the the Central Mosque and the 300 year-old Palace of King Toffa, which retraces the history of Porto-Novo.

Day 12

Cotonou - Departure

Spend the morning free before departure.
