Shore Excursions: Shai Hills & the Volta River
Group will be picked up from the Tema port, by a representative from Blastours will meet group for a trip to the Eastern Region of Ghana.
Stopover at the Shai Hills Resource Reserve, home to troops of olive baboons, kobs, bushbucks, monitor lizards and spectacular caves with large colonies of bats.
We will start with a walk/drive through the dry evergreen forest to the Ancestral caves of historical and cultural significance. The area was once the home of the Shai people until the colonial masters forcibly expelled them from there in 1892.
Climb up rocks to see relics of the old Shai settlements, learn about the significance of the great stone rocks, tunnel-like openings and overhangs.
Once atop, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding area.
After lunch at the Royal Senchi, we will experience a boat ride along the Volta River.
Return to the Tema Port in the late afternoon.
