According to the history of the Ewe, founders of the town of Tsévié emigrating southwards (in what is known as the exodus of Notsé which would go back to 1720) decided to sow beans at their place of rest. When they wanted to depart from there, the farmers or sowers protested and asked to wait for the crops. It was from thence that came the name Tsevie, which is a compound name: ‘ Tse’ meaning Yield, and ‘Vie’ meaning small, with the logic ‘Let it yield small before we leave’.
Ayiza is celebrated every second Saturday of the month of August.
