(Day 1)                                                                 Arrival –  Accra

Upon arrival at the Kotoka International Airport, a representative from Blastours will meet group for a transfer to the hotel. Depending on the time of arrival, we can visit a seamstress with fabric to order customized traditional clothes. Overnight stay at the Roots Hotel (or similar), Accra

 (Day 2)                                          Accra (Art tour & Akweley Suma)

Start the day with a contemporary Art and Design tour of Accra including visit to the Artists Alliance Art Gallery, Nubuke Foundation and The Shop Accra. In the afternoon, we witness activities of Akweley Suma in preparation towards the twin festival ahead. Overnight stay at the Roots Hotel (or similar), Accra (B/L)

(Day 3)                                      Twin Festival & Chale Wote

Start the day with a visit to the colourful and vibrant Makola Market. Continue to Accra’s Oxford Street to visit Textile shops. After lunch, we visit the Ga Mashie Palace, where we join in the activities of the Twin Festival, a celebration of the double blessing from God. Take a stroll through James town to witness the weeklong Chale Wote Festival. Overnight stay at the Roots Hotel (or similar), Accra (B/L)

 (Day 4)                             Accra (Homowo & Chale Wote)

Start the day with a drive by the Independence square. Continue to the Arts Centre for National Culture (Ghana’s biggest craft market). There is a great chance of discovering old antiques by strolling into the deep interior of the crafts market. Join in celebrations of the Homowo festival and Chale wote festival in Accra. Witness the preparation of a traditional meal of Kpoikpoi, served only during this festival. Have dinner to a live band performance. Overnight stay at the Roots Hotel (or similar), Accra (B/L)

(Day 5)                                                Accra –  Kumasi

Depart for the Ashanti Region. On arrival, we visit the Ashanti Traditional Buildings. Continue to the Manhyia Palace, the seat of the Ashanti Kingdom. End the day at the Kumasi Cultural Centre, which offers a good account of the rich Ghanaian culture, provides evidence of the Ashanti Kingdom’s eminent past. It houses the Prempeh II Jubilee museum, which provides a fascinating collection of Asante’s history. Overnight stay at the Frederick’s Lodge (or similar) in Kumasi (B/L/D)

 (Day 6)                                                      Kumasi (Crafts)

Start the day with a visit to the textile section of the Kejetia Market, the largest open air market in West Africa. Visit the village of Ampabame Krofrom, where bronze smiths still create works of art using the lost wax method. Continue with brief stopovers at the craft villages of Ntonso, a village famous for adinkra design and Ahwiaa for carving. Also visit the village of Adanwomase (Kente) to interact with locals and to learn the art and history of the craft. Overnight stay at the Frederick’s Lodge (or similar) in Kumasi (B/L/D)

(Day 7)             Kumasi – Elmina (Slave River)

Depart for the Central Region with a visit to Assin Manso, the location of a Slave River. On arrival, we visit Elmina Castle, for an insight into the history of slavery. Take a walk through the ancient town of Elmina, to view some homes built in colonial style and also to experience the lifestyle of the Fantis. This will include visits to the fish market and the Asafo Shrines, where warriors prepared mentally and spiritually before going to war. Overnight stay at the Coconut Grove Beach Resort (or similar) in Elmina (B/L)

 (Day 8)                                                Elmina (Lessons in traditions)

Early morning visit to the Kakum National Park, which comprises of undisturbed virgin rainforest to experience a walking tour on the longest and highest canopy walkway in West Africa. In the afternoon, we learn to prepare a local dish and join in a head wrapping workshop. Overnight stay at the Coconut Grove Beach Resort  (or similar) in Elmina (B/L)

 (Day 9)                                         Elmina – Axim (Castles & Beach)

Join in a naming ceremony in a nearby village. You will be welcomed with traditional drumming and dancing. Depart for Axim with a stopover at the Bisa Aberwa Museum, dedicated to promoting African values and celebrating Pan- African heroes.. Overnight stay at the Axim Beach Resort  (or similar) in Axim (B/L)

 (Day 10)                                                                                            Axim

Experience a boat ride to Nzulezo the village on stilts. Spend the rest of the day free at the resort.  Overnight stay at the Axim Beach Resort  (or similar) in Axim (B)

(Day 11)                          Axim – Accra (285km)

Set off for Accra with brief stops at forts along the coastline including Fort St. Sebastian, Fort Orange, Fort Good Hope, and Fort Amsterdam on the summit of a hill in Abanzi, the ancestral home of Louis Armstrong. Also visit the Cape Coast Castle, one of the best preserved castles and also declared as UNESCO World heritage site. After lunch we take a walk through the township. End the day with a live band performance by a local band. Spend the night at the Roots Hotel (or similar) in Accra (B/L)

(Day 12)                                                         Accra – Departure

Spend the morning free before for departure.  No overnight stay (B)

Accommodation will be 3-4 star and boutique hotels, breakfast daily with lunch and dinner as indicated in the itinerary

Transportation to all sites by a professionally licensed and experienced driver in an air-conditioned vehicle with a trained licensed English speaking tour guide will accompany group at all times.
