According to history of the Ewe people, founders of the town of Tsévié emigrating towards the south (exodus of Notsé which would go back to 1720) tired and deprived, decided to sow bean. When it was necessary to take again the road, the sowers protested, demanding to await harvest. From there came the current name from Tsévié formed of "Tsé" (to produce) and "vié" (a little). Ayiza take its name with the bean “Ayi” and is celebrated each year 2nd Saturday of the month of August in Tsévié.
